The government has named the first 218 stuck schools set to receive targeted support from its new RISE improvement teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This comes after 45 new advisers were announced last week<\/a> to join the 20 who have been in the RISE divisions since the start of February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The teams will commission support for \u2018stuck\u2019 schools \u2013 those rated \u2018requires improvement\u2019 following an earlier below-good inspection grade \u2013 from bodies such as trusts, councils and federations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s what you need to know\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Most \u2018stuck\u2019 schools are academies<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    <\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    In all, 175 (80 per cent) of the schools on the list published on Thursday<\/a> are academies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Forty (18 per cent) are under local authority control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The remaining three are UTCs, all of which are part of a trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Three MATs \u2013 Hope Sentamu Learning Trust, Plymouth CAST and Kemnal Academies Trust \u2013 have four schools named on the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Meanwhile, Derbyshire council was the only local authority with four RISE schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    One of the reasons for this is because the definition of a \u2018stuck\u2019 school includes those that have been rated less than \u2018good\u2019 multiple times \u2013 irrespective if a school has only one of these ratings after joining an academy trust. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    2. RISE schools with RISE advisers?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      <\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Our analysis suggests eight of the trusts that have employees working as RISE advisers also have at least one school that\u2019s in line for targeted support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Four of them \u2013 Bishop Hogarth, Meridian Trust, Oasis Community Learning and Tove Learning \u2013 have two academies set to be given the help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Of the five councils with a member of staff on the teams, one, West Berkshire, has a local authority-maintained school on the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      3. Just 3% in London<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        <\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Only 7 of the RISE schools (3 per cent) are based in London, the lowest of any region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        With the exception of the northeast, all the other parts of the country accounted for at least 10 per cent of those on the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Thirty-two of the schools (15 per cent) are in the northwest \u2013 the highest of any region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        4. Half are secondaries<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
          <\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          One-hundred-and-fourteen (52 per cent) of the schools are secondaries, compared to 91 (42 per cent) for primaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Secondaries are also more likely to be academies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Just 10 (5 per cent) are special schools. The remaining three consist of one all-through and two pupil referral units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          There are seven MATs with RISE advisers who have at least one special or AP school. Only three of them are special or AP specific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          5. Schools \u2018no longer eligible\u2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
            <\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            When the first 20 RISE advisers were named in February, it was announced they would be working with an initial tranche of 32 schools that were previously in line for structural change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            But three of them have been listed as \u201cno longer eligible\u201d for support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            This is because they have since been rated \u2018good\u2019 across the board by Ofsted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
